I love doing book reviews of scriptural children’s books. I was excited for this book which is an “Alphabet Book of Bible Heroes.” It really is a cute idea.
The descriptions of each story were good. The letters were usually a person, a name for Christ, or a principle of the gospel. The stories were well-told and accurate, except for Jonah being swallowed by a whale. We don’t know it was a whale, but perhaps that is the only “w” word the author could think of.
The artwork to me left a lot to be desired. It just didn’t sit well with me. It was kind of silly and exaggerated, and did not fit the spiritual tone of the book at all. Each page also had modern items on it that were the same letter as the main word on each page. That could have been creative, but it wasn’t working for me at all.
I think the book in itself is a great idea and it is well-written. It is worth reading, and perhaps you will like the art more than I did.
